R U OK? Day Free Community Event

R U OK? Day is a reminder that a simple conversation can make a big difference. It encourages us to check in with the people around us, ask how they’re really going and let them know they’re not alone.

This year, Seachange Home Care is hosting a free community event at Berwick Botanical Gardens on 10 September 2026 from 10am–12pm. We’re bringing participants, staff and members of the local community together for a relaxed morning to connect, have a chat and check in with one another.

Why Is R U OK? Day Important?

R U OK? Day encourages everyone to take the time to genuinely ask someone, “Are you OK?”
For people living with disability or experiencing social isolation, having opportunities to connect with others can be particularly important. Sometimes, simply having someone listen can help a person feel supported and connected.
Checking in doesn’t have to be a big conversation. It could be having a coffee together, going for a walk, asking how someone’s day has been or simply letting someone know you’re there for them.
At Seachange Home Care, we believe that connection, inclusion and community are an important part of supporting people to live fulfilling and independent lives.

How Can You Check In With Someone?

You don’t need to be a mental health professional to check in with someone.
Try starting with:
“Are you OK?”

Then give them the opportunity to talk and really listen to what they have to say. If they’re not OK, you can ask how you can support them or encourage them to connect with someone who can help.

Sometimes the most important thing is simply letting someone know that they’re not alone and that you’re there to listen.
